WHERE IT ALL STARTED

In 1983, Cody Snyder made history as the first Canadian to be crowned PRCA World Champion Bull Rider. At just twenty years old and virtually unknown on the professional rodeo circuit, he captured the world title in Oklahoma City and returned home to Alberta to a hero’s welcome. He would go on to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo four times and claim the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association Championship in 1986. In 1994, he was named Cowboy of the Year by his peers, a testament not only to his talent, but to his leadership within the sport. To this day, Cody still holds the highest scored ride in Canadian rodeo history, a 95 point performance in 1983 that remains unmatched.

Born and raised in Redcliff, Alberta, bull riding was not just a sport for Cody. It was a way of life.

His first official rodeo experience came at the age of five when he entered a local calf riding competition. After being knocked off and sent past a barrel, he stood up, dusted himself off, and climbed back on. That moment defined everything that followed.

By eight, he was riding junior steers. By twelve, he rode his first bull. At fifteen, he became the Canadian Amateur Bull Rider Champion. By nineteen, he was leading the Canadian Professional Rodeo standings.

From small town Alberta arenas to the world stage, Cody’s rise was fueled by grit, discipline, and an unwavering belief in the sport.

A Champion who changed the sport

Throughout his career, Cody endured the physical cost of greatness. Broken ribs. Punctured lungs. Torn muscles. Dislocated shoulders. A broken collar bone. Ultimately, a career ending wrist injury. Yet even as injuries mounted, his impact on bull riding only grew. Ten years after winning his world title, Cody retired as one of Canada’s most accomplished rodeo athletes. But retirement did not mean stepping away. It meant building something bigger.

In 1993, alongside his wife and business partner Rhonda Snyder, Cody founded Cody Snyder Bullbustin’ Inc., which quickly evolved into one of North America’s premier bull riding production companies. To date, Bullbustin’ Inc. has produced more than 400 events across the continent, featuring elite athletes from around the world. These world class productions have been broadcast nationally and internationally on TSN2, NBC, CBS, Fox and other major networks, expanding the reach and awareness of professional bull riding to millions.

Bullbustin’ has produced various events including the PBR Canadian National Finals, PRCA Xtreme events, major charity productions, and private corporate showcases. Over the past 25 years, millions of dollars have been raised in support of charities across Canada.

Cody has remained a dominant force in the growth of the sport, mentoring young riders and helping shape the next generation of champions. He was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2006, Cody received the prestigious PBR Ring of Honor. Internationally, he served as Team Canada’s coach for the PBR World Cup in Australia, Mexico, and Brazil, representing the country on the global stage.

Cody remains one of the most recognized voices in rodeo and bull riding. Since 1997, he has served as the television voice of the Calgary Stampede, bringing insight and authenticity to audiences across the country. He has appeared as a colour commentator on OLN, ESPN, Rogers Sportsnet, TSN and CBC, and produced and starred in his own television program following each Calgary Stampede performance. Whether in the arena, in the production booth, or behind the microphone, Cody Snyder continues to elevate the sport he helped transform.

While Cody Snyder’s championship titles shaped the history of the sport, the Cody Snyder Charity Bullbustin’ defines his enduring legacy. Launched in 1999, the Calgary charity event was built on a simple but powerful belief that world class sport could drive meaningful community impact. What began as a bold idea has grown into one of Calgary’s most anticipated summer traditions and a cornerstone event of Stampede season. Each year, the top bull riders in the world compete in an elite showdown with points counting toward the PBR World Finals. The production transforms a parking lot into a high energy spectacle that blends western heritage with modern entertainment.

But the impact extends far beyond the chutes. To date, the event has raised more than four million dollars for Alberta charities, supporting organizations that strengthen families, empower youth, and improve lives across the province. Corporate leaders host clients in premium hospitality spaces overlooking the arena, returning year after year as a new generation of riders step into the spotlight. What started with one champion’s passion now fuels a city wide tradition built on excellence, community, and purpose.
